Name of the Open Forum: Peace One day
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
Youth need tools that enable them to listen to and to communicate effectively with a wide audience.
• Youth should be encouraged to voice their own opinions and create their own meaningful ways to be active global community members
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
We believe in the power of the arts to teach and to heal and to divert youth from going into the system further. We also feel that by working with the arts through our programs that serve the youth we will further our underlying mission to reduce the factors which drive the need for the juvenile justice system to exist by changing conditions and helping to create a caring community
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding
this Open Forum for youth in the community:
Our model creates a constructive school environment, which translates into an enhanced climate for learning and ultimately academic achievement. The model also develops social-emotional competencies and self-control, which translates into improved problem-solving, self-management, and conflict resolution behaviors and ultimately less violence.
