О нас

This is an intensive, practical and participatory course for practitioners working for peace and justice in situations of instability and conflict. The first course took place in 1993, and in 2007 we will hold the 18th course. In 2005, 24 participants from 15 countries (8 women, 16 men) took part in the course. They came from a variety of civil society organisations working in a range of fields such as development, human rights, reconciliation, counselling and media.

There are two common links which bring the participants together:
- they are all working for social and/or political change in their situations,
- they attend the course because of the social and/or political conflicts which affect them, their colleagues and communities. The nature of the conflict may differ: some may live in situations of open or violent conflict; for others it may be hidden or latent. But for each it affects how they live their daily lives.

The overall aim of the Working with Conflict course is to provide participants with a broad understanding on a variety of issues and topics relevant to their work and situation, thereby contributing to the capacity of organisations and communities to work for positive change. There is a strong practical focus to the course, with an emphasis on strengthening skills and building capacity.

The course is based around four modules.
Understanding Conflict
From Analysis to Intervention
Peacebuilding
Preparing for Action

A team of international tutors will work with the course group for the entire ten weeks. In 2006 the team was composed of tutors from South Africa, Uganda and Palestine.
