ALL WEEK EVENTS:

1. Local photography project showing at SCYAP Gallery on
3rd Ave. S

"Developing Change Photography Project"

An innovative approach to empowerment through art, the developing change photography project put cameras in the hands of people who access services at The 601 Drop-In Centre at AIDS Saskatoon. The top twelve images will be selected for a photography exhibition at the SCYAP Gallery during the month of November, and be included in a portrait calendar that will be sold to raise funds to support programming at The 601 Drop-In Centre.

To learn more about the developing change exhibit or calendar, download the information sheet or contact Erin Scriven, either by email (aids.saskatoon.admin@shaw.ca) or by phone at 242-5005.

AIDS Saskatoon would like to acknowledge the support of Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Program, the host gallery for the developing change exhibit. For more information about SCYAP, please visit their website at www.scyapinc.org

2. PROJECT PRAYER FLAG
As part of the celebrations to mark our 20th Anniversary, AIDS Saskatoon is encouraging members of the public to design a flag to include in Project Prayer Flag.

20 years ago AIDS Saskatoon first opened its doors. Since that time, we have witnessed many changes. Our city has changed and grown, the face of HIV/AIDS has changed, and the number of people affected by this disease has continued to grow. Throughout all of this change, AIDS Saskatoon has evolved, remaining at the forefront in the fight against HIV/AIDS here in our community.

Project Prayer Flag is an opportunity for individuals to pause and reflect on the impact the HIV crisis has had on their own lives.
This initiative is an excellent opportunity for individuals to express their very personal narratives about the impact of HIV on their lives while at the same time creating a very large public display to raise community awareness of the impact HIV/AIDS has on all of us.
Project Prayer Flag allows individuals to lend their voices to a larger endeavour. We encourage everyone in Saskatoon to create a flag based on their feelings, wishes, or prayers about HIV/AIDS. Whether to commemorate the loss of a loved one, to celebrate the efforts of volunteers who work with people affected by HIV, or to express your hopes for the future, creating a prayer flag is a great way to show your support!

As each flag will be as unique as the person who created it, people are encouraged to express themselves on their flag as they wish: be it with words, images, or both. All of the flags will then be strung together and flown for all to see. In an effort to get many people to participate, AIDS Saskatoon will be setting up flag-making tables at
various public events during the summer and fall. We will also be incorporating this activity into our public education efforts for schools, churches, and community groups.

Kits of flag making material are also available at our office by calling 242-5005. There is no fee associated with creating a prayer flag, although AIDS Saskatoon always accepts donations should you choose to do so.

For more information about Project Prayer Flag, please contact Duane Minish, Communications & Resource Coordinator, at 242-5005, or visit www.aidssaskatoon.ca to learn more.
