This luncheon breaks with SCIC tradition somewhat to focus on poverty in Regina (in the context of the gloabl gap between rich and poor). It features a locally-made documentary \"Blessed are the Poor\" by emerging Saskatchewan film maker Matthew Regamey.
The son of Salvation Army workers, Matthew Regamey was exposed to the reality of poverty at a young age. Seeing the effects of poverty first hand inspired him to create this documentary, which began as a student final project but became something more. \"Blessed are the Poor\" profiles three different organziations directly involved in the fight against poverty: The Salvation Army, The Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry, and the Regina Food Bank. It explores some of the casuses of poverty, what people are doing about it and how the average person can get involved.
The Luncheon will feature comments by the film maker and local and global anti-poverty activists. |
