Two Talks Featuring Guest Speakers

Linda McQuaig
The Real Axis of Evil: Oil, Money & Politics
Linda McQuaig’s book, “It’s the Crude, Dude: War, Big Oil and the Fight for the Planet” achieved best-seller status when it first came out in 2005. Revised and updated in 2006, it is a penetrating account of how US foreign policy is aimed at controlling global oil supplies, at the expense of the environment and political democracy. In her talk, she will discuss how misguided US and Canadian energy policies are undermining national security and food security in Canada and creating human suffering around the world.

Richard Heinberg
Peak Oil: Energy, Food, and Our Future
Journalist, educator, editor, lecturer, and a Core Faculty member of New College of California, Richard Heinberg is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost Peak Oil experts.
He is the author of three recent books “The Party’s Over: Oil, War and the Fate of Industrial Society”, “Powerdown: Options and Actions for a Post-Carbon World” and “The Oil Depletion Protocol: A Plan to Avert Oil Wars, Terrorism and Economic Collapse.”
In his talk, he will argue that modern civilization is dependent on cheap, plentiful energy. But we now face a critical moment in human history: Peak Oil, where global petroleum production enters an irreversible decline, even as demand soars. Dwindling resources and increasing international competition for the remaining supplies have led many experts to issue disturbing warnings about the coming decade. Find out how we can prepare for these coming challenges while building community and striving for a sustainable future.
