Name of the Open Forum: The Role of Canadian Youth in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
This Open Forum will focus on the Millennium Development Goals, which are:
1.Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2.Achieve universal primary education
3.Promote gender equality and empower women
4.Reduce child mortality
5.Improve maternal health
6.Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
7.Ensure environmental sustainability
8.Develop a global partnership for development
The role of Canadian youth in achieving these goals will be discussed and solutions for overcoming potential obstacles will be explored.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
The forum will bring together youth throughout Nova Scotia to discuss the MDGs and how they apply to their local and global communities. The youth who participate will have an outlet to describe and share how these issues affect their regions, as well possible ideas on how they can help achieve the MDGs.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
As a result of the Open Forum, Nova Scotian youth should be more informed about the MDGs in general and what measures youth can take in achieving them. The overall goal is to provide inspiration and tools to youth in working toward the MDGs.
