"Dealing with Difference Through Dialogue!"
YOUCAN’s 6th Resolve It! National Youth Symposium on Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution. This symposium will take place in Ottawa, Ontario from March 07-11, 2007 and will gather 500 diverse youth from across Canada representing youth-serving agencies, schools and non-governmental organizations.
YOUCAN – Youth Canada Association is a national non-profit organization that supports youth working in the area of conflict resolution, violence and crime prevention and peacebuilding. Our mission is to “equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities”. Since our establishment in 1997, we have trained more than 18,000 Canadian youth in over 15 cities and 30 schools.
The Resolve It! 2007 Symposium is designed to:
- Help youth become leaders in creating peace in their respective homes, schools and communities;
- Promote the peaceful resolution of personal, community and societal conflicts;
- Establish a Canadian network of youth peacebuilders to take action upon issues that concern them;
- Serve as the foundation for future collaboration and sharing of research in the area of conflict resolution for youth;
- Help define best practices in the area of conflict resolution,
crime prevention and violence prevention for youth, and
- Integrate the skills and processes of conflict resolution into
Canadian youth culture
