Name of the Open Forum: Youth Participation in Economic, Social and Cultural Changes in Somalia
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
This forum is focused on how the Somali youth will be organized and motivated to create awareness of self initiative that is productive which can result in a progressive change to the current mood of violence, human rights abuse, armed conflicts and poverty. We will also debate how the youth could participate in the leadership and decision making process of the above mentioned change.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
After the long civil strife, lack of central government and cho
se within the country (Somalia) since 1991 up to date. The Somali youth was faced by lack of education, security, unemployment, killing, looting, rape, drug abuse and other human rights violation. All this above mentioned dark era had resulted that the responsibly and the role of the youth which was self-consciousness segment in the society had vanished due to lack of education, acute poverty and use of elicit drugs. Therefore, SOYES had felt the important role and the urgent need to make awareness, so that the potential power and inspiration to spearhead the eradication of the human rights abuses within our very own society would stop.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
1)To create fruitful cooperation among youth organizations, the elite individuals in the youth and students, to change the current extreme situations
2)To get large numbers of capable youth who can undertake the role of leadership and decision making
