In recent decades, the world has experienced a growth in violent intra- and inter-state, community and family conflicts and tensions. In workplaces, employers and employees grapple with issues of equality, equity and improved wages and conditions of service. Similarly, change agents working towards building cultures of peace are constantly faced with issues of human rights abuses against women, children and people with different abilities. To meet these challenges development practitioners, civil society groups and agencies promoting sustainable people-centered and earth-centered development are equipping themselves with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes they need to manage conflicts constructively and to build a culture of peace. A commitment to conflict transformation, peacebuilding and human rights should be among the core values of any individual, group, organization or institution involved in human advancement and environmental sustainability. This three-week certificate focuses on approaches to community-based conflict transformation and peacebuilding. The goal is to enable participants to improve practice and influence policies that support sustainable peace, justice, human and earth rights, and democratic governance in their societies.
Applicants from developing countries are eligible for Coady Institute bursaries that cover most of the cost of tuition, room and board. Special efforts are made to enable women and aboriginal people to attend.
Candidates are fully responsible for covering the cost of their own travel.
