The students at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School held their third annual Message On A Bottle Campaign during this past Christmas season. With the approval of the LCBO board of Ontario, each student is given a large and small LCBO bag to decorate with slogans pertaining to drinking and driving. The LCBO looks forward to receiving these bags every year and they have become very popular.
This year on December 20, 2006 the entire school body assembled in the gymnasium where all the students displayed their bags to guest speakers. Guest speakers included Mr. Mike Warnock representing the LCBO of Ontario, Mrs. Joan Courtney a school board trustee who herself was hit by a drunk driver in her youth, as well as Mayor Wayne Hurst of Amherstburg. All the guest speakers praised the students for their great efforts and encouraged them to continue making the community aware of Drinking and Driving.
A total of approximately 900 bags were decorated. Jeff Watson MP and Bruce Crozier MPP who could not attend the assembly sent messages congratulating the students on their achievements and the campaign.
