TakingITGlobaL Youth Day Sierra Leone (TYD – SL) Report – 31st August 2002
This report covers the activities that were organized to observe TakingItGlobaL Youth Day in Freetown Sierra Leone. Furthermore the report takes into cognizance the difficulties, experiences, challenges and hopes for the growth and consolidation of the TakingITGlobaL ( TIG ) Network in Sierra Leone.
In observance of this day, the TIG Coordination Team in Sierra Leone organized the following events, (1) Cleaning Up- Campaign in three strategic areas in the city’s capital: (a) The Connaught Hospital in Lightfoot Boston Street, (b) Princess Christian Maternity Hospital-Fourah Bay Road and the Taylor Cummings Garden located between the State House and the former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which was burnt down by the rebels during the January 6th, 1999 invasion. Beautification exercise was also carried out on the Taylor Cummings Garden.
The other activities were a grand football gala among youth organizations at the Black Field playing grounds, Sorie Tong, and the launching of the TakingItGlobal Sierra Leone Network (http://sierraleone.takingitglobal.org) at the British Council auditorium, Tower Hill Freetown.
What a great report. It is so good to know that young people with limited resource can make such a positive contribution to their environment. It is so good to hear about them cleaning up the mess left behind by my generation. It must have been a real encouragement to the team that they had such a good turn out. Well done
