Name of the Open Forum: Move Your World - Open Forum on the MDGs
Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
The Open Forum will discuss all of the MDGs in detail, with a focus the role of Canada and Canadians addressing these issues. Students will have time to reflect individually on the targets and discuss in small groups what they can do to overcome obstacles and help to achieve the development goals.
Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
As many of the students attending are interested in global issues, it is necessary that their foundation of understanding is rooted in the United Nations agenda for change. Knowledge about the MDGs and people organizing around them will serve as inspiration and source of furthering their knowledge about the most significant issues of our time.
Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
I hope by hosting an Open Forum to:
-increase the participants understandings about the Millennium Campaign overall
-to understand what each of the goals and their targets mean
-to have concrete examples of others working to achieve these goals in Canada
-to begin thinking about these issues as topics that they can put their energy towards in the future
-to provide the Action Guide as a tool and resource for planning actions on the MDGs in the future.
-to be exposed to the network of other young people actively engaged in these issues, via the TIG portal.
