THE GLOBAL GRASSROOT YOUTH FORUM
Preamble
The Global Grassroot Youth Forum (GGRYF) which was founded 6 years ago is an international non governmental organization set to promote the aspirations of the youths on how to live and develop in peace, order, and under good governance dedicated to the promotion of intercontinental solidarity and world peace, international co-operation and understanding. It is also an organization set to eradicate social vices that characterize the people & youth of our society:
Global Grassroot Youth Forum has on the 3rd of March 2003 adopted the millennium development goals as one of it’s aims and objectives and it has since, been working towards the realization of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The organization is also known for its commitment of bringing the Youths from all over the world to be self determine, patriotic and walking toward national development and progress, the INGO: GGRYF has her network from 118 countries, has global contacts in Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, United State, Uzbekistan, Nepal and India, the INGO has a global membership of about 6,000 youths and over 13 million e-members.
1.1 RELATIONSHIP WITH THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN SETTLEMENT PROGRAMME (UN HABITAT).
The organization relationship with the united nation program on human settlement – (UN-HABITAT) is traceable to the founder/CEO of GGRYF – Comrade Sunday Michael’s subscription to the Habitat site as a member via the taking IT global community Forum in which the GGRYF and the UN HABITAT both belongs to, the CEO contributions on issues that centers on the well being & prosperity of the people pave the path which was strengthened when the executive Director of the UN HABITAT; Mrs. Ann Tibiajuka sent a package to comrade Sunday Michael introducing the UN HABITAT and world Habitat day to him, he went further by extending an invitation and nomination papers to Sunday Michael and his organization. The organization convene an emergency general meeting through its African representative; The Nigerian Grassroot Youth Forum (NGRYF) to organize the 2005 world Habitat day in Nigeria with support from UN in terms of materials.
1.2 UN WORLD HABITAT DAY
The United Nations has designated the first Monday in October every year for the celebration of the World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter for all. It is also intended to remind the World of its collective responsibility for the future of human habitat.
The theme of this year’s World Habitat Day as chosen by the United Nations is “a safe city is a just city” The United Nations has chose this theme in order to raise awareness and encourage reflection on the mounting threats to urban safety and social justice, particularly urban crime and violence, forced eviction and insecurity of tenure, as well as natural and human-made disasters
As the world becomes increasingly Urban, it is essential that policymakers understands the purpose of the city as catalyst for national and international development. Cities have to be able to provide conducive living conditions for all residents. Rich or poor, every one has a right to the city, decent living environment to clan and safe drinking water, sanitation, transport, electricity and other man’s necessity now how we manage this is arguably one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. And we most note the significant threat to urban safety today wish is forced eviction and insecurity of tenure. Incidents of forced eviction are regularly reported from all parts of the world. They are often linked to bulldozing of squatter settlements and slums in developing countries, as well as to processes of gentrification, beautification and urban redevelopment in both developed and developing country cities. Forced evictions have been highly publicized in recent years, partly because freedom from forced eviction has become recognized as a fundamental human right within international human rights law.
