DetailsAbout
Name of the Open Forum: Youth Empowerment Forum

Specific issues that the Open Forum will focus on:
Specific issues that we propose are;
-Opportunity for jobs and education
-Traditional thoughts that are biasing young women to develop
- Constructive mentality in thinkings and acts

Rationale for holding this Open Forum:
I think it is very important as my nation is new and it has been going through a very difficult time. We believe that children and young people are our hope for the future.
We need to raise the issue of opportunity because by knowing the ways to solve these issues, young people will have a better chance to develop.
- In our country, women have less access to jobs and education rather than men because of the traditional thoughts that women need not to continue studying because they would merry a man and leave their parents - because men give the dowry. We believe that Timor Leste will be rich of human resources if women have equal access since the population of women is higher in Timor Leste than men.
- The difficult situation of the country affects young people to have constructive mentality. We see from the street their involvement in the recent violence, looting and other brutal acts. By finding ways to promote young people to have more constructive mentality, we can meet help many young people to empower themselves.

Goals the organizer hopes to achieve by holding this Open Forum for youth in the community:
- Help young people become aware of opportunities and learn how to meet the qualifications
- Inform young people about opportunities in Dili
- Help young women and the community know their important roles in the development of the country
- Help young people seeking to empower themselves
- Help young people avoid Crime
