DetailsOver
The Truth for Youth Conference parallels the Family Planning Advocates Annual Conference.

On a substantive level the Truth for Youth Conference teaches young people
(ages 12-22) how to organize peer education groups and how they can become
involved in their own community. Our conference educates youth, as well as
adults, on real life teen issues. Workshops range from discussions and teen
theatre groups dealing with teen pregnancy/parenting, respecting others in
the community, teaching about HIV/AIDS and how to get tested, safer sex and
abstaining from sexual activity as well as self-esteem issues and health
relationships. Not only do young people get to experience interactive peer
education workshops, but they also receive the opportunity to use their
knowledge to educate elected officials on health and other issues facing
young people today and then go home and incorporate their experiences and
knowledge gained into peer education work.

In addition to the educational interactive workshops, we have been able to
bring a variety of well-known and highly respected leaders to the youth
conference as featured speakers. Included in that list are Jocelyn Elders,
"Midnight Voices", Mohammed Bilal, Will Power, Rebecca Walker and Leslie
Watson.

A new feature of the youth conference is a college-age component entitled
"New Leaders." Our hope is not only to continue to educate teenagers, but
also reach young adults ages 16-22 students as well. In 2002, "New Leaders"
focused primarily at college students with workshops consisting of
everything from how to start a pro-choice student group on campus, knowing
your health care rights and the difference between emergency contraception
and RU-486. With the "Post-Roe Generation" becoming older we must find
future leaders, teach them our past and equip them with knowledge and
advocacy skills needed to protect reproductive healthcare services in the
future.

Be empowered, connect with like-minded individuals, bring back vital information to your community.

Some scholarships available.
