The annual youth conference, a project initiated in February 2006, provides a platform for WYA members, members of civil society, and leaders to discuss ideas of how human dignity is influenced by various issues and to identify practical ways in which these issues could be addressed. The theme of the first conference was “Joining young thoughts for poverty reduction and peace in Africa.” This year participants are invited to discuss the theme: “Good Governance for Free and Just Societies in Africa.” The event is scheduled for the 29th of November to the 2nd of December 2007.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE:

a.Bring together over 100 WYA members and member organizations to share ideas of good governance in Africa.

b.Establish how freedom, responsibility, and justice can be realized for the sake of good governance despite the challenges currently facing different countries in the African continent and establish how they can be realized at the individual and communal level.

c.Map out basic plans or projects on how the ideas of freedom, responsibility, and justice can be applied by young people after the conference.

d.Encourage dialogue as a method of solving societal problems in our communities and encourage responsible stewardship amongst youth in society.

e. Understand the workings of government and our role as young people in promoting good governance.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

About 100 young people aged between 17 and 30 made up of:

a.World Youth Alliance members from host country and the neighboring countries. Participant allocation will be made based on the number of received applications from participating states and/or countries.
