Darfur’s reality is Genocide, more specifically, the combination of the Greek root genos (family, tribe, race) and the Latin cide (massacre). Claiming the lives of over 400,000 individuals and displacing over 2.5 million people, this ongoing five year massacre between-at its simplest level- farming groups or non-Arabs, and nomadic pastorals considered Arabs, and backed by the Sudanese Government.
The Arabs militias (or Janjaweed) continue to perpetuate violence, rape, murder, torture, terrestrial and aerial rampages, to name a mere few. This is our gravest global humanitarian crisis and it needs to stop.
In addition to being a supremely unique artistic forum, the R.A.D. will be premiering unique avenues of action, which you have the opportunity to be part of. Marianne Williamson once said, “Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond all measure.” Lets tap into this power, and support positive change in Darfur. |
