The Second Preparatory Committee of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), will be held in Geneva from February 17-28, 2003.

Since last February of this year, there have been a number of developments related to the WSIS, most notably the First Preparatory Meeting of the World Summit in July and an Informal Meeting on content and themes of the Summit which was held in Geneva in September.

The main objective of the Second Preparatory Committee meeting will be to begin the consideration of a draft Declaration of Principles and Action Plan, to be submitted eventually for the approval of Heads of State attending the Summit in December 2003. At its September 19th, 2002, meeting, the PrepCom Bureau recommended that the development of the first draft of the Action Plan and Declaration be carried out and submitted to PrepCom-2, under the authority and guidance of the Chairman of PrepCom, Mr. Adama Samassekou, from Mali.
