This event is part of a another event, WSIS Asia Pacific Regional Meeting
WSISYOUTHASIA is the Asian regional network of the global youth caucus of the World Summit on Information Society, and we are working on developing and organizing our input into the preparatory processes beginning with this E-Conference, followed by national youth dialogues in some Asian countries. The primary aim of this online event is to concretize Asian youth engagement in the background work leading to WSIS as well as to deliver an Asian Youth Declaration and Plan of Action.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in 2003 (Geneva) and 2005 (Tunis) will be the culmination of a process of global discussions and harmonization for all countries of the world to come together to develop & foster a clear statement of political will and a concrete plan of action for achieving the goals of the Information Society.
WSIS is an initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the United Nations (UN). Preparations for WSIS consist of Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) and Regional Meetings. The Asian Regional Conference is scheduled from January 13-15, 2003 in Tokyo, Japan. The next Preparatory Committee Meeting will be held between the 17th and 28th of February 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland.
This E-Conference is a youth initiative spearheaded by TakingITGlobal (Canada), International Institute on Sustainable Development (Canada) and Young Volunteers for Sustainable Development (The Philippines).
