DetailsAbout
Post-secondary students from across Ottawa will gather on Parliament Hill on Saturday Mar. 15 to say a loud and collective 'NO' to unjust practices by Canadian mining companies in the Global South. The students will be performing street theater from 1 p.m until 3 p.m. They will perform dramatic presentations that depict the plight of people in the Global South affected by Canadian mines. The students are calling for the Government of Canada to create an ombudsperson office that would hear the concerns of those in the Global South affected by Canadian mining companies. An ombudsperson was a recommendation in the final report of the national roundtables consultation held by the federal government on the issue last year. The performing students are from St. Paul University and Carleton University. Come out and join in on the acting, carry signs, hand out information, or just show your support! For more information contact: Angela Pereira at 613-220-8708
