This event is part of a another event, XVII International AIDS Conference
Are you a young person (16 to 26) who will be attending the Mexico City International AIDS Conference (August 3-8, 2008)? If so, please join the Mexico YouthForce for our free Youth Pre-Conference!
The Pre-Conference will consist of informative and skills-building workshops around HIV/AIDS issues, ranging from scientific knowledge to effective political advocacy. Participants will also gain skills in research methodology, monitoring and evaluation, media and communications, as well as updated information on prevention strategies, harm reduction, and details on treatment. Participants will learn how to advocate to policymakers on issues relevant to young people and how to deliver the YouthForce's advocacy messages at the conference and beyond. The Pre-Conference is especially important for first-time conference goers to meet other youth delegates and to gain skills to make the most out of the conference itself.
Young participants at previous Pre-Conferences remarked that the pre-conference was one of the most useful and informative aspects of the entire Conference experience. Youth participants gained skills that were useful not only during the main conference, but also when they returned to their homes to carry on their HIV/AIDS work.
Applications for participants and presenters will be available on the Mexico YouthForce website,www.youthaids2008.org, in late April!

The Mexico YouthForce is a coalition of youth-led and/or youth-serving HIV/AIDS organizations who are working to empower young delegates and promote youth participation around HIV/AIDS before, during and after the XVII Mexico City International AIDS Conference. It is .coordinated by Ave de México, Advocates for Youth, Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS, TakingITGlobal, and Youth Coalition. The Pre-Conference is thanks to the generous support of UNFPA.

Pre-conferencia de Jóvenes FuerzaJoven México

¿Eres un@ joven (de entre 16 y 26 años de edad) que va a asistir a la Conferencia Internacional del SIDA en la Cuidad de México? ¡Únete con la Fuerza Joven de México para participar de forma gratuita en nuestra Pre-conferencia de Jóvenes!
La Pre-conferencia consistirá en talleres informativos y de construcción de habilidades sobre temas de VIH y SIDA, desde el conocimiento científico, hasta la incidencia en política en el tema del VIH/SIDA. Los participantes también obtendrán habilidades en la metodología de la investigación, monitoreo y evaluación, trabajo en prensa y medios de comunicación, así como información actualizada sobre estrategias de prevención, reducción de daño y detalles en esquemas de tratamiento. Los participantes aprenderán a cabildear con los tomadores de decisiones y formuladores de políticas públicas en los temas más relevantes para los y las jóvenes y sobre como entregar los mensajes de incidencia de la Fuerza Joven durante la conferencia y después de ésta. La Pre-conferencia es especialmente importante para los que asistan la Conferencia por primera vez: ya que les dará la oportunidad de conocer otros delegados jóvenes y aprender habilidades para poder aprovechar mejor la Conferencia Internacional del SIDA.
Los y las participantes jóvenes a Pre-conferencias anteriores han remarcado que éstas han sido las más útiles y donde han obtenido mayor experiencia e información de toda la Conferencia. Los Jóvenes participantes desarrollaron habilidades que fueron útiles no solo en la Conferencia sino cuando regresaron a sus países de origen para continuar con su trabajo en VIH y SIDA.
Las solicitudes para participantes y presentadores estarán disponibles en el sitio de web de la FuerzaJoven, www.youthaids2008.org, a finales de Abril.
