DetailsAbout
It is a widely know fact that more Youth need to be educated, included and empowered within Six Nations and ALL Indigenous Communities. This is especially apparent with the many land claim issues, the negotiations between our Traditional government (the Confederacy Council) and the Canadian government, the lack of Youth Centre and programs in our Territory, the countless violence and drug-related deaths and other pressing issues in our community.

However, we also know that among our people, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), there was a prophecy that there would come a time where the Tree of Peace (which represents our people and the Great Law of Peace that binds us together) would start slowly toppling on the Chiefs. It would be too heavy of a weight for them to bear but there would be a 7th generation of Youth born who would see their suffering and help them uplift the Tree of Peace once more.

We can see that this is needed in our communities.

We can also see this happening everyday in small pockets here and there, but what we are lacking is UNITY -- within our communities and among the Youth. We are therefore hosting a Six Nations Youth Rally 2008 to ignite the fire in our Youth and start calling for positive change and the inclusion of the Youth voice in our community.

It has a few purposes/goals:
1. To involve, inspire and empower the Aboriginal Youth to create positive change in the community.
2. To start the process of building a Youth and Elders Centre on Six Nations with the support and vision of ALL Six Nations Youth
3. To educate Aboriginal Youth and gather their views on many topics such as Leadership, the Great Law, Land Claims, Violence, etc.
4. To provide the Youth with a fund, positive, inspiring, drug & alcohol-free event.

There will specifically be 5 major events that will be occurring during the Rally with small workshops, speakers, and discussions toin on between these activities.

- Land Claims

- Pride
- The Environment

But we won't just be talking we'll be DOING -- our on-goin motto is: DO SOMETHING!!

There will also be two smaller tents:
- An Art Tent - where a mural will be painted by the Youth (w/spray paint graffiti art, traditional paint, markers, and other cool stuff) and art can be made at any time durring the Rally (soap stone carving, drawng, painting, etc.)

- An Elders Tent - where elders can relax and Youth can come and talk to them at any time throughout the Rally. -- There to respect the Elders and to create a forum where Elders and Youth can reestablish that lost connection.

SO, if you can help us out at all w/speakers you are in contact with or Bands/Hip-hop artists or any other performers just drop us a line at: delegationofsnyouth@hotmail.com or call Melissa at 519-754-5209.
