We cannot win overnight. Success will require sustained action across the entire decade between now and the deadline. It takes time to train the teachers, nurses and engineers; to build the roads, schools and hospitals; to grow the small and large businesses able to create the jobs and income needed. Below is a min-resolution on the issue:
"THE QUESTION OF THE ATTAINABILITY OF THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The Kenya Model United Nations,
Bearing in mind that the MDG’s where developed eight years ago and their achievement in Kenya are a dream to come true;
Deeply concerned by, the slow pace of the authorities in their achievement;
Yearning to identify the problem, seek solutions and recommendations and take action.
1. Calls on youth to do more research on the issue,
2. Calls for a debate by the Kenyan youth on 3rd July 2008 to forge the way forward on this global issue,
3. Welcomes any further ideas on this issue. "
HERE IS THE DEAL.
THEY WILL BE AN AUDIENCE AND PARTICIPANTS WHO WILL DEBATE UNDER A MODERATOR. ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE - YOU MAY EVEN BE A RECENT UNIVERSITY GRADUATE. THE POINT IS TO ALLOW AS MANY YOUNG PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE FOR FREE! COOL, yeah?
THE OBJECTIVES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
• Provide a platform for debate on the MDGs
• Enlighten people on the MDGs
• Create awareness on the existence and achievements of the MDGs
• Instill a sense of responsibility in the participants on the actions they can take
• Garner support from the youth on this important issue.
• Encourage the youth to come up with workable solutions to this problem
I'M GOING TO MAKE A CONFESSION - I'M RATHER DISILLUSIONED ABOUT THE MDG ISSUE - ESPECIALLY WITH THE GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS, AND FUEL SHORTAGE AT THE MOMENT. WHAT HAVE THE WORLD LEADERS DONE ABOUT IT - G8 AND AU?
