Topic: Conflict, Hunger, Education, Global warming, Terrorism or Disease? Where should the priority lay?
The Global Issues Forum (GIF) is a public engagement initiative hosted by Room For Improvement Youth Dev Inc. for the general public of the Saskatoon community to begin with, the forum is structured around the freedom of expression, without any affiliation to political movements, religion, ethnicity or sexual orientation to name a few. The forum is aimed to increase awareness on human rights issues globally, how they are violated and how they have affected us in our past history and continue in our lives today. The topics that will be addressed include conflict, politics, indifference and ignorance, corporate practices and economic globalization to mention a few. Room For Improvement Youth Dev Inc. aims to bring about empowerment of our community through peer to peer education through the global issues forums; for every voice to be heard, respected and be appreciated.
Our world is growing more aware of the aspects hindering our development; conflict, disease, corruption, global warming, illiteracy and hunger to name a few. Most of the population today is thinking outside their comfort zone, becoming global citizens; trying to do their part to ensure a good life now and for tomorrow's generation. There is a big ongoing discussion; the Copenhagen Consensus that gathers scholars and experts to discuss where priority lays in helping to build a better world. The gathered efforts of philanthropists and NGOs and some governments command large sums of financial resources but at the same time have brought about controversy on where the majority should be invested.
With this in mind it seems fitting to have our first forum sharing with each other our own priority to do lists and the reasons we position it so and how they can in turn help better our world. Below are a few links to related material.
