What is the WYF?
The World Youth Festival (WYF) is a space were young people from all over the world will get together to develop and participate in a wide range of educational, cultural and leisure activities. The WYF intends to promote that young people around the world are interested and concerned with the world they live in that they are actors in the development of their societies as well as have proposals and undertake action.
The 2001 WYF in Panama will be a space of dialogue, exchange and cooperation of young people and youth organisations, respecting diversity and plurality. A place to promote global solidarity between young people the world over.

Who can participate?
Participation at the WYF is open to any young person between 16 and 30 years of age.
Where is the WYF taking place?
The 2nd World Youth Festival (WYF) is going to take place in Panama City, Panama, Central America. The WYF will take place from 21 to 29 of July 2001.
The WYF will be held in the former Howard Air Base in Panama City, which was a military base of the United States' Southern Command. The base has been conditioned to host the WYF. The base is located at the entrance of the Panama Canal and has the necessary installations required for and an activity like the WYF, such as: a theater-auditorium, swimming pools, gyms, game grounds, a church and many green areas, full equipped meeting rooms, etc.
The participation fee is 160 US$ and includes accommodation and meals during the WYF. The accommodation at the WYF has been designed in a residential style. All the participants will be accommodated at the Howard Base. The accommodation is based on rooms for 4 persons each. The WYF will provide breakfast, light lunch (remember that its a tropical country) and dinner.
The participation fee of 160 US$ will also include the participation in all the activities developed during the WYF, such as conferences, workshops, sport activities, music and concerts and cultural activities and one excursion.
How to get to Panama?
In principle participants have to make their own travel arrangements to travel to the WYF in Panama. However the organisers have been working to facilitate the travel of participants. The will be organised flights to the WYF departing from two European cities Paris and Madrid. The price of a return ticket from Paris to Panama is 950 US$. The price of a return ticket from Madrid to Panama is 850 US$ (including taxes).
Programme of the WYF?
The WYF has a six day programme for you. The programme is based on three topics related to youth: the world we live in, the work we do and our proposals for the future. It will include a wide range of activities that focus on these three topics, such as international seminars and discussion panels, conferences, training and capacity building activities, an international fair on Youth and Development Cooperation, theater, dance, music and painting workshops, cultural expositions, music concerts, a movie festival and sports and sport competitions.
