Title: "The Two Faces of Poverty: Making the Law Work for Indigenous Peoples and Women" UN Commission The Legal Empowerment of the Poor


Concept: The UN Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor argues that four billion people around the world are robbed of the chance to better their lives and climb out of poverty, because they are excluded from the rule of law. Full UN Commission report "Making the Law Work for Everyone"

We will bring together international and local researchers and advocates with students and concerned citizens to explore the connections between poverty and legal exclusion - including direct discussion with members and advisors of the UN Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor:

Lloyd Axworthy - President of The University of Winnipeg; former Foreign Minister of Canada

Ashraf Ghani - Chairman of the Institute for State Effectiveness; former Finance Minister of Afghanistan
