International Work Camp
for Youth Participation in Social Development
USSHA Foundation in collaboration with Youth Managed Resource Center(YMRC), Sankhu is organizing a seven day 'Youth Work Camp for Social Development' from November 17-23, 2008 in a rural village of Nepal. USSHA Foundation decided to organize the International Work Camp after the successful completion of National Work Camp for Youth Participation in Social Development in Rivan, Kaski (remote village of western Nepal).
This work camp is mainly focused on youth empowerment through knowledge, information and skills (KIS) sharing and generating the productive participation of them for sustainable social development. At the end of the work camp, the participants will design an Aggregated Youth Club Action Plan (AYCAP), as the rural youth participants will be from local youth clubs, which will provide sustainability for the program. This AYCAP will be supported by the fund generated for the program.
The work camp is envisioned to start a work camp campaign in Nepal which will assist in promoting the 'Sustainable, Equitable and Self-Reliant Social Development Actions'.
Objectives of the Work Camp
To provide knowledge and skills about social development.
To make youth responsible towards society and social development.
To generate an environment of teamwork among youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Contents of the Work Camp:
Society, Social Structure and Development Status of Nepalese Communities,
Development Approaches and Practices (national and international),
Role Identification of Stakeholders for Sustainable Social Development (Government, Donor Agencies, I/NGOs, Private Sector, Youth, Media and Community),
Need Assessment Tools and Practices,
Local Resources Identification and Utilization,
Team Building and Goal Setting Skills.
In the camp
Indoor sessions (theoretical presentation, group discussion, experience sharing, presentation by development expert and university professor, etc.)
Outdoor sessions (village tour, hiking, interact and work with the community, campfire, cultural exchange, forest safari, local governmental and community organization visit, Games, etc.)
Expected participants: The expected participants are youth (18-30) from beginners to experts in development sector. There will be 30 youth participants; ten from local community (sankhu), eight from other area of Nepal and twelve international.
Program Date: November 17-23, 2008 (Mangsir 02-08, 2065)
Application Deadline for international applicants: October 31, 2008 (Kartik 15, 2065)
Application Deadline for national applicants: November 07, 2008 (Kartik 22, 2065)
Application Requirements: CV and letter of interest
Venue: Lapsiphedi, Sankhu, Kathmandu (Nepal)
Registration Fee: Rs. 5000 for Nepali participants
USD 250 for Non-Nepalese participants
Registration Fee Covers:
Travel from and to the work-camp destination and Kathmandu
Food and Accommodation for 7 days and 6 nights of the work camp
Stationery required
First Aid service
Certification of course completion
Others, if applicable.

Note:
Selection of the participants will be done through the analysis of their interest in development.
The selected participants will be informed via email and/or phone.
Outside participants will be lifted from Kathmandu, so you have to manage your travel up to Kathmandu.
