Stop Canadian Complicity in Torture (SCCT)* is an Ottawa-based
committee whose purpose is to support Abdullah Almalki, Ahmed el-Maati, and Muayyed Nureddin in their search for justice. These three innocent Canadians were rendered to Syria by the Canadian government after they were suspected of being involved in terrorist activities. In Syria they each suffered through months or years of extreme torture and mistreatment by Syrian officials. This rally has several purposes: to bring awareness to the plight of these three torture survivors, to demand accountability from the Canadian government in the form of a full public inquiry into the events surrounding the three men, and to denounce the unjust proceedings of the "secret" inquiry currently being conducted by Justice Iacobucci. |
