As usual, the Forum will feature representations from around the world, and focuses this year on the important issue of Voluntarism.
The new millennium is already upon us and with this it brings forth a new vision of hope for the world's societies. Especially to our youths, the future leaders of our societies, this new century gives them a new starting point, writing a new chapter in the history of humankind. With this in mind, the Korean youths, youth organizations and I would like to wish all the success and health for the youths of the world.
The National Council of Youth Organizations in Korea has been hosting the International Youth Forum as an international annual gathering for youth. Recognizing the need for a place where youths from all over the world can come together under one roof discussing current issues that affect both their lives and those they will lead in the near future, the International Youth Forum has not only allowed many experts to put forward their views to youth leaders giving them first hand knowledge of pressing issues, it has also allowed youths from various cultures to come together setting aside their preconceptions to discuss the issues at hand.
The International Youth Forum has already been recognized as an event that has contributed much to the development of the youths of the world. It has given many past participants opportunities to develop useful networks where the sharing, gathering and exchanging of ideas has become the norm. This year the International Youth Forum, in conjunction with the United Nation designating the year as the "Year of Voluntarism", has embarked on the theme "Voluntarism and Youth". It is hoped that the theme will encouraged this year's participants to look into the many possibilities voluntarism can offer, and see how simple voluntary acts can help enhance the quality of our present lifestyles.
The National Council of Youth Organization of Korea, as in the past, invites the youth of the world to experience friendship and adventure in a congenial environment. We want you to share your many ideals in the Land of the Morning Calm, and we hope your youthful aspirations, believe and trust will give new inspiration to all present. |
