DetailsAbout
Every year, millions of students and activists from around the world take part in the Global Campaign for Education's Global Action Week campaign to draw attention to the 75 million children and 774 million adults who do not have access and education.

2009's Global Action Week will focus on literacy and will include public readings from the BIG READ book a compilation of stories on literacy from authors around the world. So far, the Global Campaign for Education has received contributions from Nelson Mandela, Queen Rania of Jordan, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Paulo Coelho, Alice Walker, Devli Kumari, and Dakota Blue Richards.

To this list will be added works by authors from around the world. The final draft of the book will then be published in many languages and distributed to GCE’s 87 national and 22 international partners.

From April 20-26, 2009, millions of students, teachers, adult learners, parents and campaigners around the world will gather with politicians and journalists to:
• read a selection of stories from the BIG BOOK;
• add their name to a statement at the end of the book calling on governments to provide finances and action on adult literacy.
• write their own stories to add to the book.

These events will be combined with a Parliamentary Breakfast, and other in-person and online actions calling on the Canadian Government to do more to support education for all.
