The Canadian University Queer Services Conference (CUQSC) was initiated in 2006 by the Pride Centre at the University of Ottawa. With the goal of creating a nation-wide network of campus queer services, it has since become an annual affair, establishing itself in Winnipeg (2007), Montreal (2008), and now in Guelph come January of 2009.
The official theme of this year's conference is “CONVERGENCE: Exploring Intersections of Oppressions.” The three-day conference (Jan 23-25, 2009) will feature workshops, events and speakers that focus on queer issues within campus service organization, and will work to showcase how different forms of oppression intersect and interact with one another.
Though the focal point of the conference is on queer services, the themes and topics addressed will strive to create an understanding of the relationships between diversity, service provision, and discrimination on campuses. Our hope is to offer up a forum for students and employees alike to invent constructive ways of improving their campus communities. |
