Youth Empowered is a high-energy one-day event that engages and equips high school youth for action on global issues. Now in our fifth year nationally, we have events across Canada, including Ottawa on February 12th, 2009.
This year YE is taking on the Global Food Crisis. Food prices have risen globally and close to a hundred million more are being pushed into poverty as a result. We will be focusing on the issues and what actions we can take to make an impact. Each YE participant will receive a special "Food Fight" action guide that will help them take action at their school and make a real impact.
The day has workshops on global issues, leadership skills and a special assimilation time where people prepare themselves for action in their own community. For teachers there is a networking time for sharing resources and ideas on global education.
We will once again have three special guests from Tanzania, as part of our Youth Ambassador exchange program. Each of them will be exciting for youth to meet and to learn from.
Cost: $25 per person for registration Monday Feb 2nd, 2009 (special extended early deadline for teacher network members!) or $30 per person for registration after Feb 2nd. Includes lunch, snacks and conference materials.
Venue: Embassy West Hotel & Conference Centre
Final registration deadline: February 5th 2009
Number of participants: Up to ten students and one teacher (this may be flexible closer to the event date)
