The 1st International Workshop
Nuclear Science and its Peaceful Applications
Cairo, Egypt, 17 - 19 March 2009
The Cairo University center for graduate studies in nuclear sciences peaceful applications as well as the academy of scientific research and technology are organizing a workshop in collaboration with the atomic energy agency of Egypt and the ministry of higher education. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Italian embassy in Egypt, the international center for theoretical physics (ICTP) in Trieste Italy, and the French Embassy in Egypt..
The workshop is an inauguration of the center debut as well as it serves in assessing the needs for university nuclear science graduate studies reform to meet the needs for the formation of nuclear scientists to serve Egypt ‘s future energy demands.
Purpose of the Conference:
A discussion on the merit and the implementation of university programs and of small nuclear experimental devices for the training of the next generation of nuclear physicists and engineers in Egypt.
The following issues Would be addressed:
How should Egyptian Universities respond to the challenge of operating a first commercial nuclear power plant in Egypt by the year 2030?
Creating a network of universities with nuclear science curricula in Northern Africa and the Middle East, with a view to European collaboration.
Nuclear materials and safety aspects. * Applications ! of Nuclear Science other than producing energy.
Merits of linking Egypt to the International Fusion Program, through the assembling and the operation of a small Tokamak device in Egypt.
The conference will serve the launching of an Educational Nuclear Science Centre in Egypt.
The conference is addressed to professors and graduate students from all over Egypt, the Mediterranean and the Arab world for collaboration and research on nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, safety techniques and simulation techniques.
