About the Spirit Awards

For the 12th year, Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa (CAYFO) is proud to host the Spirit of the Capital Youth Awards. This for youth-by-youth event celebrates the extraordinary achievements of youth making our community a better place – from athletes, to young entrepreneurs, to budding artists, to activists for social change, to those who have overcome personal obstacles.

Awards are presented to local youth, recognizing their contributions in the following eight categories:

* Arts & Culture
* Service & Caring
* Entrepreneurship
* Personal Courage
* Academic Perseverance
* Young Athletes
* Young Activist
* Youth & Technology

Nominate a young person for a Spirit Award

We are asking you to nominate a young person under the age of 20 who you know who is making a difference! Whether you are a teacher, a coach, a guidance counsellor, a parent, or a young person yourself - consider nominating a young person who you think is deserving of a 2009 Spirit Award! Nomination deadline is April 9th, 2009!

Attend the Spirit Awards Gala
The Spirit Awards is a for-youth-by-youth event that brings together 500 people – business and community leaders, educators, and of course youth! The event is filled with incredible performances by youth and you are sure to leave feeling excited and inspired about all of the amazing things Ottawa youth are doing!

If you would like to attend the event, email spirit09@cayfo.ca.

YouthMarket
For the first time ever, this year's Spirit Awards gala will showcase products and projects by youth in Ottawa! Come spread the word about your work to over 500 attendees by adding a booth to the entrance of the Crowne Plaza! There is no booth fee, and all proceeds made go directly to the youth who stand behind them - to help fund their initiatives and develop their talents - or profits can be donated back to CAYFO!

We are looking for youth teams in the following areas:

* Visual Artists - display, sell or auction your work

* Musicians- sell your CDs and sign copies

* Entrepreneurs - sell and promote your product or service

* Agents of Change - showcase your initiative, organization, charity or project

Email us at spirit09@cayfo.ca to sign up your booth or to learn more!
