The Government of Lithuania in co-operation with the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) will be playing host to the World Information Technology Forum - WITFOR, which will take place in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, on 27-29 August 2003.
The WITFOR is a unique initiative of exceptional value. The Vilnius WITFOR will launch a regular cycle of conferences to be held every second year:
The topic of WITFOR is ICT-equity.
The target of WITFOR is to hold a round table of:
politicians and senior officials responsible for information development from both developing and developed countries,
representatives of non-governmental organizations,
representatives of inter-governmental organizations,
experts.
The goal of WITFOR is to prepare and help implement information development strategies and projects in developing countries.
I invite you to come to Vilnius and make your own contribution to seeking solutions in the field of ICT equity!
The inequity of information and knowledge has today become a central issue in the global development. It penetrates deep and leaves its trace in all areas of our everyday life - education, health care, economic competitiveness, environmental protection as well as in democratic development, internal and external stability.
Nobody else but ourselves who are seeking to modernise our countries and guarantee well-being and peace to our citizens can place the resolution of the ICT-equity problem on the global level.
In Vilnius we will stand side by side to cope with this complex and highly significant task! |
