DetailsAbout
In 2009 the British Council will present the International Young Performing Arts Entrepreneur (IYPAE) award for the second time. The award seeks to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs working in the field of the performing arts. IYPAE is a cross departmental collaboration between Creative Economy Unit (CEU) and Drama and Dance (DAD) to showcase international business innovation in the performing arts, using the UK as the nexus for cultural, creative and commercial exchange.

IYPAE took place for the first time in 2008, when 8 international performing arts entrepreneurs took part. The winner was Gabriel Zapata from Colombia. For more information on the previous IYPAE award, please see:
www.creativeconomy.org.uk/iypae08

This year, eight countries are participating in the IYPAE 2009 award; they are China, Egypt, Georgia, Ghana, India, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Russia. British Council offices in these countries are responsible for selecting a national winner for their country, who will represent their country in the UK programme, and compete for the International award.

Award Prize:

In addition to the honour of the award title, the prize for the winner of the IYPAE award is:
 A physical award – a special commission bowl by acclaimed glass designers, Gillies Jones.
 A financial prize of £5,000 to be spent on a project in collaboration with the British Council that builds the relationship between the winner’s country and the UK. The winner will be asked to propose his or her own project idea. For example, it may be used for the winner, to take short training courses, or to help fund a placement in UK industry. It could also be used for him or her to collaborate with UK specialists that she or he has met or others they would like to engage with: i.e. to run workshops in their home country or the UK, or to develop a tailored project in consultation with UK experts in a particular field.
