Darwin's Living Legacy: A Conference on Evolution and Society
14 November 2009 - 16 November 2009

Charles Darwin is celebrated as one of the greatest scientists of all time, with his work forming the foundation of many different research fields and yet, his ideas still stir up controversy.

We would like to explore this controversy and promote an informed dialogue about evolutionary theory, grounded in a mutual respect for differences in ideas, cultures and religious beliefs.

To initiate this, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in collaboration with the British Council is organizing a 3-day conference of Darwin.

The four main themes running through the conference are:

1- Research frontiers: exploring the frontiers of evolutionary science

2- Putting evolution to work: applications of evolutionary science in areas such as medicine, agriculture and economic development

3- Evolution and the modern world: exploring the social and philosophical implications of evolutionary thought, including the relationship between faith, science and society

4- Evolution and education

The conference will take place 14-16 November 2009 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center.

Darwin Now Exhibition will be running at the same time.

The conference programme will be available soon.
