Background of International Youth Day
Theme:Sustainability, our challenge, our future
The General Assembly on 17 December 1999 in its resolution 54/120,
endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers
Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared
International Youth Day.
The Assembly recommended that public information activities be organized to
support the Day as a way to promote better awareness of the World
Programme of Action for Youth to the Year 2000 and Beyond, adopted by the
General Assembly in 1995 (resolution 50/81).
About the Event
Youth Initiative Canada in partnership with Ray Cam community centre
is organizing a multicultural youth event to mark the international
youth day on the 12th of august. The organizers envisage to bring
together youth from different diverse cultural backgrounds. The
activities of the day will be
• Spoken poetry
• Traditional dances
• Video screening
• Food sampling from different cultures
• Networking
• Tables for different youth based organizations in the city to show case their work.
• Youth think tank committee that will be involved to develop a
message to be displayed at the roof of the ray cam centre for
outer space view.
Performers list will be provided later,and the list is still open for more performers.
