PDF, in collaboration with the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), and Dream Arts and Design Agency (DADA), present the first New Media Conference to commemorate the United Nations International Youth Day theme: Internet as a Tool for Sutainable Development.
Pdf is a non profit organization with a strong focus on building the capacity of young people in modern technology through constant training, providing guidance and mentorship for young people in their choice career, promoting volunteering among young people as a means to sustainable national development.
Through the Conference, PDF hopes to provide a platform for young people to sit around and discuss the internet and the inexhaustible ways in which its uses can be optimized. ‘The aim is to inspire a generation of youth with strong understanding of the rapidly advancing internet and the new media applications; who can be ambassadors of Nigeria by selflessly contributing their new media exposure for positive development’, says Miss Adenike Fagade, Director, PDF.
The Conference will be declared open and Keynote address given by Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele, the Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy. It will feature discussion sessions on blogging/ e- mail, social networks/ sites, online research via search engines, online freelancing/ schooling etc, facilitated by Tosyn Bucknor, Niyi Tabiti, Chude Jideonwo, Anwuli Ojogwu, Shakiru Jalupon and other youth who work extensively with the internet.
A key segment of the Conference will focus on the public perception of the internet as a tool of the fraudster. As we all know, this phenomenon has created a negative image of the internet as a site of interaction. However, the major emphasis of the conference is in how to use the internet as much as possible for positive business purposes. Elsewhere in the world, the cyber space is growing as the de facto site of business interaction; Nigeria must take advantage of this. This awareness, according to Miss Fagade, is what PDF hopes to facilitate in collaboration with CORA and DADA. Participation at the Conference is free with about 150 to 200 expected participants.
