DetailsAbout
Youth have played a vital role in social change in many countries and it has been seen from time to time. Youth are the key actors for the social change and economic development. To encourage and empower the youth participation incorporating their skills, interest and spirits in the processes and decisions that affect their lives The General Assembly on 17 December 1999 in its resolution 54/120, endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.

Hence from the year 2000, public information activities are being organized to support the Day as a way to promote better awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth.

The Youth Day is being celebrated by the youth thorough out the world as a festival with the common theme developed by the UN encapsulating the local issues. This year youths are commemorating the day with a common theme SUSTAINABILITY: OUr Challenge. Our Future.

The contribution of youth in Nepal for the political change has been amply demonstrated, from the 1997 B.S. movement to the second people's movement of 2062/63 B.S. The youth are also engaged with various issues in favor of change. Be it in social justice, peace building, human rights or in sustainability young people have played vital role for the sake of betterment. However, in Nepal, the involvement of youth in decision-making level is very minimal. In the present context, even the definition of youth changes with time and according to the situation. Therefore, at present, the need for a national policy on youth is keenly felt.

YOCAP-Nepal is commemorating the International Youth Day since its inception period. As a continuity YOCAP-Nepal will celebrate the event to team up the youths, organize and launch the practical action for the betterment of youth.

This Year a documentary film will be launched on the occasion of the day. Nepalese youth from the diverse field are contributing for the change. Youth are engaged with different activities for the sake of betterment. Their contribution towards the change should be acknowledged and exposed. Through the documentary filming the contribution, the working modality and the roles played by the youth, their participation will be visualized. This film will bring the youth from different field to share their inspiring stories, issues and their vision for the building of New Nepal. Their opinions and analysis along with their commitment and appeal to other youths will be screened. Finally the film will be uploaded in youtube and made available to the youths worldwide.

Also a youth rally will be held in the Kathmandu highlighting the importance of International Youth Day. The rally will visit the cities around. The each participants of the rally will be provided a t-shirt carrying the message of IYD 2009 also holding the placards containing the message of youth concern issues. Youth CA members, human rights activists, journalists, legal professionals, civil society and youth from different sectors will be participating in the rally.
