Anna for Africa was started in 2008 before my first trip to Ghana, where I was a teaching volunteer for two months in a rural community called Banko. In order to raise funds for my trip overseas and to buy school supplies for the local community in Ghana, I started Anna for Africa as a fundraiser at Dapper's, a nightclub in Chilliwack, B.C.
After returning home to Canada, I worked with two entrepreneurs from Abbotsford, B.C. to co-found Project World Citizen, a charity that would begin projects (specifically, a computer lab) in Ghana in 2010.
I returned to Ghana in early 2009 to research the needs and requirements for the projects we would fund. This year, I am hosting Anna for Africa for the second time to raise funds for Project World Citizen, enabling us to provide for the needs of Banko, Ghana. |
