The Oxfam International Youth Partnerships (OIYP) is a global network of young people working with their communities to create positive, equitable and sustainable change. OIYP is Oxfam International’s flagship program supporting young people as agents of change contributing to Oxfam’s vision of a fairer world. Since 2000, Oxfam International has worked with over 850 young people known as Action Partners to build their capacity and support their work to achieve positive changes in their communities.
Every 3 years OIYP selects another 300 Action Partners, aged 18-25, to support through the 3 year OIYP Program. They are selected from over 3000 applicants for their commitment to personal reflection and developing self-awareness and their dedication to finding new ways of creating change. The OIYP Program aims to enable Action Partners to grow in their capacity as active citizens and be more effective in their work for change with communities. After Action Partners have participated in the OIYP program, they continue to be part of the global OIYP Network now with 1100 Action Partners.
To launch the 2010 – 2013 OIYP Program, Oxfam will host an 8 day Kaleidoscope event in November 2010 with the 300 new Action Partners in New Delhi, India. India 2010 marks the 10th year of the OIYP Program and will also be the first time that Kaleidoscope is held outside of it’s origins in Australia. At this event Action Partners will connect with people across regions and cultures who are facing similar challenges in their communities. There will be opportunities for cultural exchange, skills and knowledge building and planning on how young people can contribute to changes in their own lives and the lives of others in their community.
OIYP is open to all nationalities, indigenous and ethnic groups. It is open to young people with any level of education and who live in rural or urban locations. We aim to recruit equal numbers of men and women. We also have a strong focus on the participation of indigenous young people, people with disabilities and those marginalized in their communities
