As you are no doubt aware, the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference is taking place in December 2009 we aim to recruit 1000 young people from 100 countries to join our Global Youth Panel, which we at Debatewise are organising in partnership with IDEA and The British Council.
Those on the Panel will come to our website and debate what’s happening in Copenhagen as the conference is going on. Some will comment on the debates, others will vote on them. This gives us an up-to-the-minute sense of what young people around the world think of events in Copenhagen.
After the conference is over we'll divide people into their respective countries and run a series of debates in which they will discuss how they will be impacted by the decisions the conference comes to. This takes what happens there, makes it personal, real and local.
In order to achieve this we are attempting to sign up country coordinators who will act as our point of contact for each country. The role is to recruit between 10-20 young people from their country and to encourage them to be active and take part in the debates. In return each country will have the opportunity to share their view on climate change and will motivate the youth in to being proactive and involved in the climate change debate. There is also the opportunity to develop contacts with country coordinators and GYP members from other countries.
If this sounds interesting and you would like to become a country coordinator, please email me at ricky@debatewise.com and we will provide you with further information and some materials to help you recruit panel members.
