NUEYS recognizes that 2010 is the beginning of the International Year of the Youth! Following the Eri-Youth Festival, NUEYS will be conducting an international youth forum with the goal of bringing together international representatives of youth and student organizations to discuss creating partnership through the themes of inclusive dialogue and exchange for mutual understanding, peacebuilding, sustainable development, active citizenship and public interest diplomacy.
Under the theme Mutual Understanding for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, this forum will bring together youth activists from all over the world to discuss the following topics: Youth participation in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), MDGs +10 , WPAY +15 , HIV/AIDS, Education. Promoting dialogue for mutual understanding and tolerance, peacebuilding for sustainable development, youth partnership for youth development and empowerment, the prevailing situation in the Horn of Africa, youth political participation, active youth citizenship for development and social justice, public interest diplomacy, youth and media, and techniques for advocacy and lobbying for peace and sustainable development.
This international youth forum is in continuation of a Regional Youth Forum conducted in July 2008. The regional youth forum saw the establishment of the Horn of Africa Youth Initiative (HAYI) Network.
The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) is organizing an International Youth Forum in Asmara from 21-23 July 2010. Under the theme Mutual Understanding for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, this forum will bring together youth activists from all over the world to discuss the following topics:
1. Youth participation in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
a) MDGs +10
b) WPAY +15
c) HIV/AIDS
d) Education, etc.
2. Promoting dialogue for mutual understanding and tolerance
a) Peacebuilding for sustainable development
b) Youth partnership for youth development and empowerment
c) The prevailing situation in the Horn of Africa
3. Youth political participation
a) Active youth citizenship for development and social justice
b) Public interest diplomacy, etc.
4. Youth and media
a) Media strategy
b) Strategic communication
c) Techniques for advocacy and lobbying for peace and sustainable development, etc.

Profile of participants:
• Plays an active role within a youth organization, at a national, regional and/or international level.
• Gender balanced delegation
• Each organization is entitled to send a maximum of 4 delegates
• Diverse representation and experience of youth work
• Aged between 18-35
• Well qualified and/or experienced in terms of international youth work
• Committed to attend the full duration of the forum
• Able to present the context of their work, their way of tackling problems, the challenges they meet and identify possible solutions
• Be able to work and communicate in English and/or Arabic.
