DetailsAbout
Mwembetendere disabled children centre
The idea for supporting the children in this school sparked when we visited this school in the village of Maandani which is located in southeast Kenya, a two hour drive from Mombasa. The state in which we saw these children broke our hearts.

We wiil be conducting some sports activities at the Mwembetendere disabled centre in that school.
This is in order to bring the kids together and share some health talk and sports activities with them.
We will also give an opportunity to the kids to share their dreams.
We will also be raising funds to support them with lunch feeding program, getting them a pair of school uniform/rubber shoes each and also organizing for a jiggers treatment.

Some of the children here have varied physical and mental disabilities such as autism/dyslexia/loss of hearing and vision, they sit on the dirt floors with no chairs or desks to work on. They are without enough paper or pencils and they are being taught by four volunteering teachers, one of which is the mother of a disabled child.

Some of these children do not quailfy to be enrolled in the public schools because of their disabitlities. Some of the parents of these children do not know the skills required to toilet train, therefore the children are deemed unfit to utilize school facilities. Some of the children's parents are disabled, meaning they cannot work or afford to pay school uniform or basic school supplies. The children are suffering from starvation as they do not have a sustanable lunch feeding program. The school does not recieve much support from the government and cannot afford to provide most of the necessities.

Plumeria International founders spoke to some of the children's parents, all of which told of the hopes and dreams they had for a better future through education for their children.

You are all welcomed.
