This Forum, intended for students taking up management, economics and other related courses, aims to bring together the future leaders of the APEC community to discuss emerging global issues that will face them in the future when they become leaders of their own governments, businesses, and social enterprises.
The 5th APEC Future Leaders' Forum aims to empower student leaders to become agents of change and thus bring about sustainable development in society. The Forum will address three key elements to help bring about change. Namely, education's role in skills development and knowledge management, youth participation in the development of business opportunities, and media and information and communication technologies as effective platforms for the youth to initiate changes in society. The Forum hopes to bring about active participation of youth through concrete action plans which the young leaders can themselves initiate.
Last year's 4th APEC Future Leaders' Forum had the central theme of "Challenges and Opportunities for Business, Government, and Social Sector Partnerships in Building Civil Society" to help recognize the importance of developing mutually supportive partnerships between the three sectors of society to help in the creation of a strong civil society. The sub-topics were Business and Government
Partnerships, Business and Social Sector Partneships, and Government and Social Sector Partnerships. Ninety-six student delegates representing the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Germany attended last year's conference.
On its 5th Year, the APEC Future Leaders' Forum has chosen as its theme "Young Leaders for Culture Change :Promoting Excellence, Enterprise and Sustainable Development". The three sub-topics this year are Preparing Leaders for a Culturally Sensitive Global Economy through Management Education, Youth Participation in Developing Business Opportunities and Entrepreneurship in a Knowledge-Based Economy, and The Role of Media and ICTs in Youth development for the New Economy.
In this connection, we would like to invite your student-leaders to this year's 5th APEC Future Leaders' Forum. It will be held from November 3 - 8, 2003 at the University of Asia and the Pacific in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. We would like to encourage your institution to send your top business and economics students to the said event.
This Forum will consist of:
.Lectures focusing on the central theme and the three sub-topics to be given by local and international speakers representing the academe, government, the business sector, and social sector organizations
.Workshops, group and panel discussions
.Service Day for community outreach projects
.Teambuilding events, fellowship, and tours
.Cocktails and other cultural activities
There will be a Forum fee per student delegate of PhP3,500. Slots are limited, hence participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once applicants have been confirmed as delegates, fees must be fully paid by October 15, 2003. The deadline for payment will be strictly imposed, hence a penalty of PhP500 will be charged per delegate beyond the deadline.
Further details on the Forum and on the payment arrangements will follow upon your favorable response. Please inform us if you and/or your delegates will be requiring a place to stay for the duration of the conference, or, if not, the address of the place where you will be staying.
