The objectives of the conference are to:
1. Strengthen the vision and understanding of the Safer Cities approach and the importance of sustainable safety in the context of good governance, poverty reduction, community mobilization and mounting of community outreach, information and development programmes.
2. Review Safer Cities experiences/practices and learn from the experiences of mayors, city councillors, municipal managers and key partners with a view to improve and refocus the technical assistance as provided by the SC Programme and its partners
3. Promote sustainable safety as an integral part of strategic municipal planning.
4. Develop an integrated action plan for Safer Cities in Africa and other regions of the world for 2004-2006.
5. Foster the safer cities approach in the NEPAD initiative for Africa and in city-to-city co-operation.
Urban Youth at risk will be a cross-cutting issue in each of the above objectives |
