Our Ghana program is for youth 15-25 yrs of age and will be offered August 1-8th 2004. We are expecting participants on 30th or 31st of July and conference will start on 1st of August 2004. Dr Nina Meyerhof is the core organizer in partnership with Nana Apeadu who is a Ghanaian tribal chief whose husband was assassinated when he was on a UN peace mission and she established a peace center in his memory. Imagine coming to Africa attending an international conference to become a certified Peace Builder. Our conference will empower young peacemakers with the practical skills, knowledge, and inspiration that are required to become active peace builders in their own community. Our goal is for young people to increase their skills and to be able to lead conflict transformation and resolution processes locally, nationally, and internationally. The voice and actions of youth will help establish sustainable and long lasting peace.
The conference will be centered on the Apatafo Peace Builder Program (Opatafo meaning peace maker in Twi and named after Nana, who is called the Peace Maker) developed out of the 2003 conference. It is focused on 3 core concepts: Peace, Conflict Transformation, and Leadership. Participants of the 2004 Youth Leadership Conference will be given an opportunity to make a presentation using these core concepts. All the presentations and workshops will be about skills and techniques necessary for promoting the role of youth in peace building.
