The Youth Forum proceeds the General Conference of UNESCO. In three days, young people can brainstorm about UNESCO's programmes and contribute their ideas.
As UNESCO aims at promoting cultural diversity in order to foster understanding and tolerance, the Organization particularly favours multicultural meetings. The Youth Forum is one of such and also represents a great opportunity for young people to exchange their views, share experiences, reflect and debate together, and above all, identify common preoccupations and problems.
The purpose of the Youth Forum is also to prepare, discuss and adopt a Report reflecting the young people's views and concrete proposals on the cross-cutting themes : specific topics for debate will be tackled in the specific themes " Eradication of poverty, especially extreme poverty" and " The contribution of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to the development of education, science and culture, and the construction of a knowledge society". One of the very goals of the Youth Forum is to conduct debates within the context of the above themes, set out in UNESCO's Mid-Term Strategy for 2002-2007.
The quality of the debates is all the more important since the success and achievements of the Youth Forum are linked to the delegates' ability to arrive at an engaging Final Report. This Report will indeed be presented by the Chairperson of the Youth Forum to the delegates of Members States at a plenary session of UNESCO's 31st General Conference.
The Youth Forum ensures that young people's voice is heard; its main objective being to yield a qualitative and clear opinion on the Organization's cross-cutting themes. It gives young people the opportunity to make recommendations so as to strengthen youth's participation in the conception and implementation of the future directions and programme of UNESCO, and integrate their views in this process.
The Youth Forum is lastly intended to set up a network of young people all over the world, connected with UNESCO, in order to help all parties to take concrete actions on matters of concern to themselves. The young delegates must be prepared to accept responsibility upon their return home for promoting and supporting the initiatives put forth during the Forum and to keep UCJ regularly informed of relevant activities in their countries.
You can either be appointed by your country to represent it as an official delegate of the Youth Forum or participate in the Virtual Forum as a virtual delegate (enter information on how to participate in it). Your ideas, opinions and proposals are very welcome. Meet each other, debate, exchange your views and make recommendations. Even if you can't participate in person, your voice is important - make it heard. |
