transforming the company - how to face dynamic forces

which basic changes in an enterprise will significantly improve its competitiveness in the future? the intensification of recent years’ trends – globalisation, advancing of information technologies, knowledge society – , their interrelation and simultaneous appearance have made certain developments of the current economic environment more visible. As a consequence, a radical review and continuous development of the company strategy should have top priority. However, flexible company structures which allow fast and adequate response to new or particular conditions of the economic environment are a precondition for a rapid change of strategy in all areas of a company. A representative study* examining the 500 top enterprises world-wide shows that 90% of the companies’ boards intend to focus on an extensive reorientation of their company within the next five years. On the occasion of the 10th world business dialogue entitled “transforming the company – how to face dynamic forces” decision makers of economy, society, and politics as well as world-wide renowned scientists will present trend-setting strategies for a radical reorientation of enterprises and will also critically discuss how to realise new strategies in all important and decisive areas of a company. On the first day of the convention successfully implemented strategies of leading global enterprises will be presented as an example to demonstrate how to respond to the current situation of the economic environment and in which way a successful reorientation of a company can be realised. There has been, for example, a sustainable shift of economical power: the economy of the asian-pacific area increasingly dominates the world markets. How can established enterprises reorganise their cost- and capacity structures in order to effectively compete with asian companies which have risen to globally operating competitors? moreover, products are becoming more complex, the demand for custom-tailored solutions is increasing. The decisive advantage – the differentiation from the competition – can only be achieved by an extension of service for products with a low margin. This implies a change of the business model. The second day of the convention will focus on those decisive success factors which are a prerequisite for a radical reorientation of an enterprise. The existing company structure is an essential precondition to realise innovations on the product- and process-level. But – how can you secure your know-how and the respective advantages when partnerships become increasingly close? dedication of staff becomes the critical success factor for the implementation of new company concepts. Thus, motivation and training as well as the entrepreneurial thinking of employees are basics for successfully positioned companies. Why do new structures result in a positive development of motivation in one country while they lead to turmoil and non-acceptance in other countries?

the final panel discussion will envisage the future enterprise and the relating effects on state and society. Therefore, the 10th world business dialogue will provide some final inspirational insights on how current developments and, in particular, intensified trends can be used for a growth of prosperity provided that everybody involved works hard for it.
